i've lived and traveled to so many places I suffered this same feeling - but after some time now, I've learned to call home where I live at peace even for a moment. because peace and home has become internal where I can spread roots to my soul not necessarily the location. x
This was gorgeous and will have every immigrant sighing. "I’m homesick for something I cannot name. Not a city or a language, but a version of myself that used to feel certain." It makes an immigrant think of when her identity wasn't splattered across history, moving and writhing as it picks up more flavors. When it was just one solid streak of comfort, that knowledge, that CERTAINTY. Beautiful.
Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your thoughts on this! I couldn’t agree more with you, my family moved to Australia when I was a kid so I completely get what you mean. Thank you for taking the time to read and share this with me 💕🫶🥹
We’re never really alone ; not in the ways that matter. The world still has places (and versions of us) waiting to be discovered. Let’s keep walking and let the journey lead us home.
I really love your prose and your writing in general. I just moved away from “home” not too long ago and this resonates. Who are your influences? This reads like some of my favorite authors.
Thank you so so much! Some of my favourite influences are probably Annie Ernaux, Virginia Woolf, Sylvia Plath, John Steinbeck, and Joan Didion! I would love to know who your favourites are 💞🫶
I've noticed that sooner or later I feel nostalgic for something, without even being able to define it. Your text reminded me of this. Maybe that's why I started writing again, because in the end it turned out that the nostalgia was for myself.
People often say you can't go home... but maybe, it's just because they haven't actually finished enough of their journey to really know where their home is.
Very impactful piece, thank you!
Thank you so much! 🫶🥹

I realized that “home” isn’t a place—it’s where your sense of self fits.
I’ve returned to familiar places before and still felt like a stranger...
It’s good to know I’m not alone! I hope we can find a place we belong one day 💞
